Posting in a Community Home

Posts give your community a place to talk between plans. You and your members can share updates, ideas, photos, links, and plans right inside your community home, and every post comes with its own group chat.

This article covers what's different about posting in a community home and how owners and admins can manage posts. For the basics of making a post, see How to Make, Edit, or Delete a Post.

📱 On the App

How to post in your community home

  1. Open your community home.
  2. Go to the activity tab.
  3. Tap the post box, right under the community's header.
  4. Type your post. You can use up to 280 characters.
  5. Optional: Add one attachment: take a photo, add a photo, add a link, or add a pie plan.
  6. Tap post.

What's different when posting in a community home

Your post can only go to that community.
When you post from inside a community home, the destination is locked to that community. You won't be able to choose a different location or community, or make it friends-only.

"add a pie plan" shows your community's plans.
Instead of showing your own plans, add a pie plan lists the plans hosted by that community. This makes it easy to promote an upcoming plan to your members.

Who can post and read posts in your community

Only members can post in a community. What non-members see on the activity tab depends on your community's join setting.

Open communities
Anyone can read your community's posts, even if they haven't joined. Non-members won't see the post box, and if there are no posts yet, they'll see a join button instead.

Posts that include a plan only show to non-members if the plan is public. Members can see all plan posts.

Communities that require a join request
Only members can read posts. Non-members, including people with a pending join request, can't see the community's posts.

People with a pending request will see a message saying sit tight... you'll see stuff once your request is accepted until their request is approved.

Tip: If your community has plans, a plans tab appears next to activity and about. People who haven't joined yet can see it, so sharing upcoming plans there and in posts gives visitors a reason to join.

How posts appear to others

When a post is shared to your community, your community's name appears next to the author's name in the feed. Anyone who taps it is taken to your community home, which makes posts an easy way for people to discover your community.

Removing a post from your community

Community owners and admins can remove any post from their community, including posts made by members.

  1. Find the post in your community's activity tab.
  2. Tap … next to the timestamp.
  3. Tap delete post.
  4. You'll see delete this post? this cannot be undone. Tap delete post to confirm.

This removes the post from your community, but doesn't delete the post or its chat. Only the person who made the post can do that.

On someone else's post, delete post is the only option. You can't edit posts made by other people.

Post chats are managed by the poster

Being a community owner or admin doesn't give you any control over a post's group chat. Only the person who made the post, and anyone they've made a chat admin, can remove members or make other people admins.

If you join a member's post chat, you'll be a regular member unless the poster makes you a chat admin.
