How to Make, Edit, or Delete a Post

Posts are a quick way to share what’s on your mind, float an idea for a plan, or let people nearby know what’s going on. Every post gets its own group chat, so anyone interested can jump into the conversation.

📱 On the App

How to make a post

  1. Open the Home tab.
  2. Tap the post box at the top of your feed. The composer opens with your keyboard ready and post something as the placeholder.
  3. Type your post. You can use up to 280 characters. A counter appears once you start typing and turns pink when you hit the limit.
  4. Optional: Add a photo, link, or plan (see below).
  5. Optional: Add a squiggle frame (see below).
  6. Tap the to ___ chip at the bottom to choose where your post goes (see below).
  7. Tap post.

Adding a photo, link, or plan

You can add one attachment to each post. Choose from:

  • take a photo: Opens your camera so you can snap a photo.
  • add a photo: Choose a photo from your library. An editor opens so you can crop it however you like.
  • add a link: Paste a URL and tap save. A preview of the link appears in your post.
  • add a pie plan: Choose one of your plans. A plan card appears in your post.

Once you’ve added something, the attachment buttons disappear. To use a different attachment, tap the X on the current one to remove it, then choose a new one.

Adding a squiggle frame

Tap the squiggle button in the top right to add a hand-drawn frame around your text.

The squiggle frame only works on text-only posts. If you’ve added a photo, link, or plan, the button is greyed out.

Choosing where your post goes

Tap the to ___ chip at the bottom of the composer. You’ll see two tabs:

public
Your post is shared to a location or community.

  • recent: Places you’ve posted to recently. Tap the X on a row to remove it from this list.
  • locations & communities: Browse places and communities you can post to.
  • search locations & communities: Search for a specific place or community.

Tap a row to select it.

friends only
Your post is only shared with your friends. On Pie, friends are people you follow who also follow you back.

This tab shows a list of your friends for reference. Tap done to make your post friends-only.

Switching to the friends only tab isn’t enough on its own. You need to tap done for the change to save.

Pie remembers the last place you posted to, so your next post defaults to the same spot.

What happens after you post

After you tap post, you’ll see:

  1. posting to ___
  2. creating group chat
  3. done!

Your post is now live, along with its own group chat. To learn how people can interact with your post, see Liking, Reposting, Sharing, and Chatting on Posts.

Posting from inside a community home

If you’re a member of a community, you can post directly from its community home. When you do:

  • Your post can only go to that community. You can’t change the destination.
  • add a pie plan shows that community’s plans instead of your own.

You need to join a community to post in it. If you haven’t joined, you won’t see the post box.

If you own or help run a community, see Posting in a Community Home for more on managing posts.

How to edit a post

  1. Find your post in the feed.
  2. Tap … next to the timestamp.
  3. Tap edit post.
  4. Change your text, photo, link, or plan.
  5. Tap save.

The save button stays greyed out until you make a change.

When editing, you can’t:

  • Change where your post was shared
  • Add or remove the squiggle frame

Posts with more than one photo can’t be edited, so you won’t see the edit post option on them.

How to delete a post

  1. Find your post in the feed.
  2. Tap … next to the timestamp.
  3. Tap delete post.
  4. You’ll see delete this post? this cannot be undone. Tap delete post to confirm, or nevermind to go back.

Deleting a post also deletes its group chat. This can’t be undone.

Community owners and admins can remove any post from their community. This takes the post out of the community, but doesn’t delete the post or its chat. Only the person who made the post can do that.
